How to convert FLAC to MP3 online
- Select a supported FLAC file from your device and check its detected type and size.
- Open Settings for the selected file to review target bit rate (kbps), sample rate (hz), audio channels. Leave the displayed defaults if they match your needs.
- Choose Convert and wait for the result. A queued job is waiting for a processing slot; a processing job is being handled.
- Download the result and open it in the application where you will use it. Keep the original and remove the server copy when finished.
What you will download
One audio file using MP3, with the selected sample rate and channels. Defaults: 44,100 Hz and stereo. Metadata and cover art are removed.
Available settings
- Target bit rate (kbps)
- 96, 128, 192, 256; default 192.
- Sample rate (Hz)
- 44100, 48000; default 44100.
- Audio channels

Understand your file formats
- FLAC is a lossless compressed audio format.
- MP3 is a widely usable compressed audio format.
FLAC vs MP3: what changes?
- Use FLAC when you want lossless compressed audio and the destination application supports it.
- Use MP3 for widely compatible compressed listening copies. Keep a higher-quality original when future editing or re-encoding is likely.
Technical format comparison: FLAC vs MP3
These properties describe the formats and the behavior implemented by this route. They are a decision aid, not a promise that two applications render every file identically.
| Format or operation | Format category | Compression behavior | Transparency support | Multi-page or animation behavior in ConverterZap | Typical best use |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| FLAC | Audio stream/container | Lossless audio compression | Not applicable | One audio stream; selected sample rate/channels | Use FLAC when you want lossless compressed audio and the destination application supports it. |
| MP3 | Audio stream | Lossy perceptual audio compression | Not applicable | One audio stream in the ConverterZap output | Use MP3 for widely compatible compressed listening copies. Keep a higher-quality original when future editing or re-encoding is likely. |

About your output
FLAC preserves the decoded audio but cannot undo losses already present in a lossy source. MP3 is lossy; converting it to a lossless format cannot restore discarded audio detail. Up to 30 minutes. Metadata and cover art are removed. Output uses the selected sample rate and channels. MP3, AAC/M4A and Vorbis/OGG are lossy; a lossless output cannot restore information already lost.
Questions about FLAC to MP3
Should I delete the FLAC after making an MP3?
Keep it if you may need another quality level later. MP3 is a lossy listening copy. Creating future files from the original FLAC avoids re-encoding an already lossy MP3.
What happens to the FLAC stream settings?
The first audio stream is decoded and written as MP3 with the selected sample rate and channel count. Metadata and cover art are removed, and a lossy source cannot regain discarded detail.
Which real-world check matters before I share this MP3 file?
Open the downloaded result in the application that will receive it and check the behavior described in the limits: Up to 30 minutes. Metadata and cover art are removed. Output uses the selected sample rate and channels. MP3, AAC/M4A and Vorbis/OGG are lossy; a lossless output cannot restore information already lost.
